Last night, Jimmy Kimmel delivered an emotional and deeply personal monologue that will undoubtedly be making the rounds on the internet throughout the day on Tuesday.
While fighting back tears, Kimmel revealed his newborn son had to undergo surgery for heart disease at just three days old.
Kimmel’s son will require another open-heart surgery within the next six months, according to ABC News.
During the monologue, Kimmel made a plea to Republican and Democratic lawmakers. Kimmel stressed the importance of health insurance that covers pre-existing conditions, while asking viewers to donate to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
“No parent should ever have to decide if they can afford to save their child’s life,” Kimmel said.
He added, “If your baby is going to die — and it doesn’t have to — it shouldn’t matter how much money you make. I hope you never have to go there but if you do you’ll see so many kids from so many financial backgrounds being cared for so well with so much compassion.”
Here’s the 13-minute monologue that everyone will be talking about:
It’s great to see that Kimmel’s son, William (Billy), is doing better thanks to his care and the standout work from the Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles. And remember to donate anything you can, because you never know who you may end up helping.
on behalf of my family, thank you for the lovely and loving tweets about our son Billy and for your donations to https://t.co/HOIUvNt8WE XO
