Ohio State loves their football team. That’s not news, of course, but it might provide some context to those who stumbled upon this video because they are primarily Chad Smith fans. To be clear, he isn’t being booed because of his performance, but rather what he is performing.
During as how in Columbus, Ohio, the Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer performed “The Victors” in front of the suddenly hostile crowd.
“The Victors” happens to be the fight song of despised rival Michigan.

Smith isn’t from Michigan, but is a known Michigan sports fan. Given that he is a Wolverine, it’s no surprise that he takes every opportunity to stick it to the fans in Columbus. Now that the rivalry is as intense and heated as ever, we might see the Chili Peppers schedule more shows in Columbus just to give him this opportunity.
The Buckeyes and Wolverines are expected to be compete for the Big Ten title this season, and ultimately the College Football Playoff. We know what side Chad Smith will be rooting for.
