2017 Rimington Trophy Watch List Announced

The Rimington Trophy is awarded annually to the best center in the country for that season. The anchor of the offensive line, the center has the most responsibility of any other player along the trenches.
With that said, being named to this list, even in the preseason is honor.
The full list can be found at the website dedicated to the award. As it is the first list to come out this season, it is the longest one of the year. It includes several players, across every conference in the FBS.
Many of these players will be cut as the year continues, until one player is given the honor at the end of the year.

The list is dominated mostly by experienced upperclassmen. Several sophomores do make the list, though. Among them are Texas A&M’s Colton Prater, Miami (OH) Danny Godlevske, Iowa State’s Julian Good- Jones, and Texas’ Zach Shackleford. After only one season in the FBS, their appearance on this preseason list is a testament to their high ceiling.
Last year the award was given to Ohio State’s Pat Elflein. This year, OSU center Billy Price is nominated for the award. Seems like the Buckeyes have turned into “Center U.”
