Former Ohio State Basketball Player: Thad Matta Was Fired

Earlier this week, Thad Matta parted ways with the Ohio State basketball program.
Ohio State claimed Matta’s departure was a mutual decision, but a former Buckeyes basketball player is not buying into the story. According to former player Mark Titus, there is no mistaking the fact that Matta was fired.
Titus discussed Matta’s departure on the latest episode of his podcast “T’d Up.”
From The Ringer:

“Thad Matta was fired. And he was fired, make no mistake about that. The way they dressed it up was this was a mutual decision… If you watched the press conference you could tell that he did not want this to happen, and that was the biggest tell. Beyond that… everything that happened, he was fired. Gene Smith said ‘we don’t want you anymore, get out of here.’
“My gut reaction is that I’m really f–king pissed off. I’m really pissed off.”

Others seem to believe Matta was forced out as well.
While we may never know the exact reason for Matta’s departure, the Buckeyes must move forward and find a replacement. The current leader for the vacancy is reportedly Creighton’s Greg McDermott, who was recently offered the job.
