If Shedrick Jackson ends up being half as talented and prolific as his uncle, Auburn will be pleased.
Jackson will be lining up as a wide receiver, though.
The 6-foot-1, 195-pounder is the nephew of legendary running back and outfielder Bo Jackson, and he officially committed to the Tigers on Monday.
To commemorate his decision, he produced a video with AL.com that drew on the legacy of his football royalty kin.
When asked why he decided to play football for Gus Malzahn and the Auburn Tigers, Jackson cited the campus culture and their being on the upswing as determining factors.
The fact that it was the alma mater of his famous uncle probably had nothing to do with it.
“It’s a great school and a great place to be,” Jackson said. “With the football team, they have had success, maybe inconsistent is what some people would say. I feel like they are steadily going up and will be on the right track soon.”
It’s an interesting comparison to intentionally draw. Bo Jackson has been very vocal about his feelings towards football since his career was ended on the field. He has stated in numerous interviews that he wishes he hadn’t played football. So do the Kansas City Royals.
When it comes to devastating, and sudden career ending injuries, Bo knows.
Shedrick Jackson is a three-star wide receiver who held offers from a number of other prestigious football program. You have to imagine the determining factor was the fact that his uncle won a Heisman trophy on the same campus several decades ago.
