The UNC football program is joining Michigan as one of the few teams that have an agreement with Nike’s Jordan Brand.
The switch from Nike branded apparel to Jordan apparel will include several overhauls to their look. While a look at their uniforms isn’t expected until sometime in August, we have already gotten a look at what their cleats will look like.
If they’re any indication what the rest of the gear will look like, UNC will be one of the more stylish teams in the ACC this season.
I’ll be honest, it’s still a little strange to me to see a basketball player on the side of football cleats. But there is no denying this is a unique look. It sets a high standard for the release of the rest of the uniform in August.
UNC’s switch to Jordan brand makes sense considering the namesake of the company is an alumnus of the prestigious athletic university. It’s surprising it didn’t happen earlier, really.
They call them the Vapor Untouchable 2 cleats. While the emphasis on stylish uniforms and appearance on the field often draws criticism from some old-school football fans, it’s become an indelible part of FBS culture.
Not only is a team expected to play well and dominant, top-recruits want to look good doing it.
This is a step in the right direction for UNC.
