Oregon Football: Justin Herbert Is Ready To Lead

One Oregon football standout is set to have a strong campaign in 2017.
Ducks quarterback Justin Herbert recently spoke to the media about his freshman campaign at the Manning Passing Academy and shared his thoughts on what is to come during the upcoming season.
Herbert admitted to lacking confidence during his first year at the collegiate level, but he’s ready to be the leader the team needs.
“They really talked about how a quarterback has to lead by example,” Herbert said, via Andrew Grief of The Oregonian. “I think I have to kind of step up and have a little more confidence this year. Being a quarterback, you have to be vocal and you have to be around guys and that’s something that I wasn’t really doing a great job of last year because I was new and I wasn’t really confident around the guys.
“Now I’ve had a year with them and am more comfortable. I can talk with them about what I need from them and what they need from me.”
Part of that, Herbert said, involves him checking in with his offensive line and wide receivers in the weight room.
“We’re all getting way more comfortable with each other,” he said. “It makes it so much easier to address them in workouts and say, ‘This is what we need to do.'”
Oregon suffered a disappointing season a year ago, but with its quarterback finding some new confidence, the Ducks could be ready to take the Pac-12 by storm.
