The three-on-three basketball game more familiar to the blacktop than the hardwood has seen a huge spike in interest lately. It’s inclusion in the Olympics and Ice Cube’s Big3 have both been met with excitement and support.
Well support of the format doesn’t appear to be dwindling.
On Tuesday, Chicago-based marketing firm Intersport announced that it would be sponsoring a tournament with the three-on-three format during the NCAA Championship game weekend.
The tournament will take place from March 30-April 1.
The prize pool will be worth a total of $100,000. Players who participate will have to be seniors who have exhausted all of their NCAA eligibility. Teams will be grouped together by what conference the participants played in.
This tournament will add to an already packed itinerary of non-Final Four goings that weekend. The dunk contest, 3-point shootout, and All-Star game also take place that weekend. Those events are typically held at colleges in the surrounding area of the Final Four.
