Art Briles Gets Coaching Job In The CFL

Art Briles is officially back in football.
According to a press release from the team, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League have hired Briles as the coach of their “Assistant Head Coach of Offense.”
The press release goes on for several paragraphs listing the various accomplishments throughout the course of Briles’ career. A notable omission is the circumstances under which he was fired as Head coach of the Baylor Bears.
A wide-ranging and heavily publicized sexual assault investigation implicating several of his players has made him virtually untouchable until now.
Earlier this month, reports surfaced that FAU coach Lane Kiffin might have talked to Briles about his offense at some point this season and the football world was up in arms. Now, he officially has a job in football again.
It comes as no surprise it is not in an American league, where his name has become synonymous with a media circus.
For what it’s worth, Briles is a very good football coach. But there are other things to consider when hiring someone, and therein lies the rub. Chances are that Briles is using this opportunity to possibly springboard back into a job with a US team at any level. Don’t count on it.
