Referee In Michigan-Cincinnati Game Calmly Plays Off Silly Mistake

Sports are more fun when everyone is taking them so seriously. Don’t get wrong, everyone should be playing guts-n-glory and all that, but ultimately it’s a game. The hardcore professionalism might be appropriate and appreciated some of the time, but not all of the time. He’s a referee who knows the right balance.

While calling a penalty during the Cincinnati vs. Michigan game in Ann Arbor, the crew chief was facing the wrong direction while making an illegal substitution call. He realized it himself eventually, and played it off incredibly well.

He appears to have realized the mistake just as he was finishing his call to the wrong side of the field. Good on him for taking it in stride and not getting flustered. There is a big crowd in Michigan, and with that many eyes on you, it’s easy to get tripped up if you make a small mistake.

Cool under pressure, a good trait for a football referee to have.
