Of all the things Ted Cruz had on his itinerary for Tuesday, Sept. 12, it’s hard to imagine this was one of them.
A porn video was liked on Twitter from Cruz’s official account and the internet is having a field day. @SexuallPosts, the Twitter handle that posted the video is now encouraging people to “follow the porn that Ted Cruz watches.”
According to Politico.com, Cruz’s team says that it has traced the source of the “like” back to a member on his staff that had access to his social media accounts.
“There are a number of people on the team who have access on the account. It appears that someone inadvertently hit the like button. When we discovered the post, which was I guess an hour or two later, we pulled it down,” Cruz said of the incident.
It is not yet known who the staffer who caused the PR nightmare was, or whether they will retain privileges to Ted Cruz’s social media accounts. Of course, that’s assuming that’s actually what happened.
After realizing that the unauthorized “like” had been made, it was undone and the post was reported. But it was too late at that point. Screenshots of Cruz internet faux pas had already spread like an aggressive rash that no amount of public relations ointment could soothe.
This will blow over eventually, but for someone who was fairly unpopular with the general public to begin with, it’s probably a step in the wrong direction.
