Four weeks into the college football season and we’ve already seen a massive shake up atop the AP Top 25.
Add a shakeup at the top of the race for the Heisman to what is shaping up to be an FBS season to remember. Following a 211-yard rushing performance powered the Penn State Nittany Lions over the Iowa Hawkeyes on Saturday, running back Saquon Barkley finds himself with the latest Heisman Trophy betting odds.
According to Bovada.lv, Barkley overtook Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield as the most likely to bring home college football’s most prestigious award.
.@Bovada has updated the Heisman race too.

Baker Mayfield 3/1
Sam Darnold 7/1
Lamar Jackson 7/1
Mason Rudolph 7/1 pic.twitter.com/VHbz88pKYu— Kevin McGuire (@KevinOnCFB) September 25, 2017
Barkley overtook Baker Mayfield for the top spot, while the USC’s Sam Darold, Louisville’s Lamar Jackson and Oklahoma State’s Mason Rudolph are form a three-way tie logjam to round out the top five.
Many pegged Darnold as the favorite before the season started, but middling performance compared to top performers elsewhere has caused him to fall off the top of the list.
Lamar Jackson appears just as in the race as ever to win his second consecutive Heisman trophy, and would become only the second player to ever do so. He ran away with the award last season, and by the sixth or seventh week, he’d all but locked it up. A late season collapse by the Louisville team wasn’t even enough for him to lose favor with the voters.
It appears that the award will go to one of those top five players, with there being a steep drop-off to 33/1 odds behind them. Expect a knock-down, drag-out fight between these five all season, but as week four closed, Barkley had the edge.
