Late-night television hosts entered the gun control debate following the Las Vegas shooting on Monday night, but Trevor Noah had another bone to pick.
The Daily Show host discussed the massacre on the Las Vegas strip which left at least 59 dead and injured 500+ more. While others immediately shifted the conversation to gun control, Noah took on the media and their coverage of the events.
Specifically, Noah wants to know why the news avoids talking about guns being an issue.
“We’re shocked; we’re sad; thoughts and prayers; and then almost on cue people are going to come out and say, ‘Whatever you do, when speaking about the shootings, don’t talk about guns,’” Noah said.
After reports that the gunman had more than a dozen weapons in his hotel room, some turned the debate to hotel security instead of the gun laws. Noah wasn’t having any of that.
“Is it Muslims? Is it blacks? Is it mentally ill people? Is it white nationalists?” Noah quipped. “Just to keep track of the arguments. Mass shooting, mass shooting, mass shooting, mass shooting, mass shooting, mass shooting, we have to take care of this hotel check-in issue.
“To the people of Las Vegas, I can’t give you thoughts and prayers. I can only say that I’m sorry. I’m sorry that we live in a world where there are people who will put a gun before your lives.”
