UNC Basketball: Roy Williams Says Nike Never Helped Team Land Recruit

As the ongoing NCAA bribery scandal raises plenty of questions about the recruiting process, UNC basketball coach Roy Williams believes his program has been able to steer clear of any shenanigans.
While speaking to ESPN, Williams said he never received any help landing a recruit from Nike.
“They’ve never helped me get any player, never insinuated, never done anything,” Williams said. “I’ve dealt with Nike and Jordan Brand since I came back here, but we never even discuss things like that. So I know it’s foreign to me.”
That may be the case, but Williams is no stranger to NCAA investigations of his own.
The Tar Heels have been under investigation for an academic scandal dating back to 2010, but there has yet to be any resolution or sanctions handed down to the program.
But with the bribery scandal, Williams insists his hands are clean.
UNC opens its 2017 campaign on Friday, Nov. 10 against Northern Iowa at Dean Smith Center in Chapel Hill.
