As long as you try your hardest, that’s all that matters. Well, that and getting the punt to go more than 15-yards.
Facing off against the mighty Georgia Bulldogs, the Vanderbilt Commodores are going to have to avoid mistakes like this if stye have any chance of pulling off an upset.
The Bulldogs are fresh off a 41-0 dismantling of the Tennessee Volunteers. They turned this 15-yard wounded duck into a 45-yard touchdown drive. Going into the half, the Bulldogs lead the Commodores, 21-7.
The game hasn’t been as close as the score suggests.
But that wasn’t the only shanked punt of the early slate of games on Saturday. With the Northwestern Wildcats trying to knock off the Penn State Nittany Lions, they can’t afford mistakes like these.
Incredibly, this punt went a shorter distance than the previous one — only 13 yards. Turnovers and bad plays like this have kept Northwestern from getting on the board, though they trail only 10-0 going into the second half.
Both teams remain reasonably within striking distance. If they are able to pull of an upset win, they’ll look at this as a funny mistake. If they lose, the punters will be running laps.
