Virginia Tech football player Sean Savoy had a breakout game over the weekend.
The joy of his performance was cut short, however, with news that Savoy’s older brother, Omar, was shot and killed. The freshman wide receiver announced the sad news on social media.
Savoy posted the following message along with photos of his brother:
Yesterday I lost my number 1 fan my big brotherš he was shot 5 times and left 2 of his sons behind I promise they will be okšš¾šššš LLOā¤ļøš£ pic.twitter.com/2BiuzeCCHl

Virginia Tech commented on the tragic news as well.
āOur hearts go out to Sean and his family on the loss of Omar,ā Virginia Tech coach JustinĀ Fuente said in aĀ statement.
āSean is a wonderful young man and I know his teammates and the rest of the Virginia Tech community will be there to support him. We ask that Hokies everywhere keep Seanās family in their prayers during this difficult time as we all extend our deepest condolences to them.ā
During his breakout game against Boston College, Savoy hauled in nine catches for 139 yards and a touchdown. He was also named the ACC Rookie of the Week.
