Pitt Football Team Is Using Offensive Lineman As Receivers Again

The Pitt football program is quietly cornering the market for pass-catching offensive lineman.
It’s a niche place to recruit talent, but it’s the only way you can explain their continued commitment to passing the ball to offensive tackle Brian O’Neill.
O’Neill got national attention last season after scoring the “fat man touchdown” and claimed the “Piesman Award. He’s back at it again.
In Pitt’s game against NC State, O’Neill slipped his blocking assignment again and headed for the goal line.

O’Neill’s knee hit the ground before he got the ball across the goal line and he was ruled down at the half yard line. Pitt would punch the ball in on the next play.
It’s a surprise to see him get the ball agains this season. Matt Canada was the offensive coordinator responsible for orchestrating the play call last season, and he now works for LSU.
All around the country, Pop Warner offensive tackles are saying “I wanna be like O’Neill.”
