Iowa Loses To Northwestern After Devastating Dropped Pass

Iowa Hawkeyes tight end Noah Fant will probably be seeing this one in his sleep for weeks.

After playing the Northwester Wildcats to a tie through four quarters, the game went to overtime. The Hawkeyes would go on to lose in overtime after Fant let the ball hit his hands and bounce to the turf.

On a fourth-and-three, Iowa easily had the first down to extend the drive.

Perhaps Fant was already thinking about turning upfield before he caught the ball, but his slip in concentration cost his team the chance to win the game.

The loss is even more brutal when you take into account that Iowa and Northwestern play in the same division in the Big Ten. The Hawkeyes fall to 4-3 on the season, while the Wildcats improve to 4-3.

None of Iowa’s losses have come at the hands of crushing defeat, losing by a total of 16-points to quality opponents. Penn State beat them by only two, Michigan State by seven, and now Northwestern.

The ball hasn’t bounced Iowa so far this season. They’re likely headed to a bowl game either way, but with a few more early breaks, they might have had an outside chance at a College Football Playoff spot.
