Emmitt Williams holds offers from nearly ever major basketball program in the country. The high school basketball player is the 20th ranked player in the country according to ESPN, and if he were able to avoid injury, he will likely have an NBA future.
But all that was put on hold after he had felony charges brought against him.
Williams is accused of holding a woman hostage in her Orlando apartment and raping her. Williams was arrested on Oct. 18, with the incident reportedly taking place on Oct. 10.
He was released on $13,500 bail after his attorney filed a motion claiming that “the proof of the evidence is not great” and the two parties were “in a consensual relationship.”
The 6-foot-8 forward plays for Oak Ridge High School in Orlando, and his attorney has requested that he be allowed to return to school. According to the News-Press, Williams has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
It remains to be seen how damning the evidence against him is, but the victim’s friend says they had a text conversation in which Williams acknowledged having sex with the victim against her will.
