Jose Aldo is going to get another chance to be the featherweight champion. As a result of Frankie Edgar going down with an injury earlier this week, MMA Fighting is reporting that Aldo has officially been named his replacement.
This sets up a rematch of the June fight in which Aldo lost the title to current featherweight title holder Max Holloway.
While Aldo is considered to be one of the greatest featherweight fighters of all time, Holloway has won his last 11 bouts, including the third round TKO of Aldo at UFC 212.
Aldo is the logical choice with Edgars unable to compete at UFC 218. He is 26-3 during the course of his career, but two of those losses have come in his last four fights.
One was to Holloway; the other was to Conor McGregor at UFC 194. McGregor knocked him out in the first round.
This will be the first event that the UFC holds at the new Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. The card looks as if it will competitive form top-to-bottom.
UFC 218 will will also feature Alistair Overeem vs. Francis Ngannou, Eddie Alvarez vs. Justin Gaethje, Henry Cejudo vs. Sergio Pettis and Tecia Torres vs. Michelle Waterson on the pay-per-view main card.
