South Carolina Women's Basketball Team Declines White House Invitation

The South Carolina women’s basketball team has declined an invitation from Donald Trump to visit the White House in celebration of their 2017 NCAA national championship.
Gamecocks head coach Dawn Staley released a statement saying the team would not be attending an event scheduled for Friday citing a scheduling conflict.
“We did hear from the White House about attending tomorrow’s event, but we will not be able to attend,” Staley said in a statement. “As I’ve been saying since our practices for this season started, all of our focus is on the season ahead. The only invitation we are thinking about is to the 2018 NCAA Tournament.”
The Gamecocks join the North Carolina Tar Heels men’s basketball team, which also turned down an invitation to the White House.
Back in September, more than four months after winning the national title, Staley had said her team had still not received an invitation. That invitation finally came earlier this month, but the South Carolina women’s basketball team is instead focused on their upcoming season and national title defense.
