Rice Football Reportedly Naming Stanford OC Mike Bloomgren Head Coach

The Rice football program is reportedly closing in on hiring its next head coach.
According to a report from on Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports Tuesday, the Owls are closing in on finalizing a deal with Stanford offensive coordinator Mike Bloomgren. Bloomgren, who is just 40 years old, has been the Cardinal’s offensive coordinator since 2014.
Bloomgren would replace former head coach David Bailiff, who was fired late last month after leading Rice to a 1-11 record.
Prior to joining the Cardinal coaching staff, Bloomgren served as an offensive assistant for the New York Jets from 2007-2010. He also served as a graduate assistant at Alabama, and assistant at Catawba and Delta State.
During his time at Stanford, the Cardinal have produced three Heisman Trophy finalists — Andrew Luck, Christian McCaffrey and Bryce Love.
Rice will be his first head coaching job.
