NFL Trade Rumors: 'Real Chance' Alex Smith Gets Moved

The 2017-18 regular season is in the books the NFL trade rumors are already swirling.
One of the juiciest rumors surrounds a quarterback set to lead his team into Wild Card Weekend, Kansas City Chiefs starter Alex Smith.
According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, there is a “real chance” the Chiefs will decide to trade away Smith during the offseason if they come up short in their quest for a Super Bowl this postseason.
From the report:

And yet, the Chiefs are open to trading Smith this offseason, sources say, thanks in part to one of the most fervent quarterback markets in recent memory.

Kansas City won’t actively seek out trade partners, but they will listen. There is a real chance Smith, who’s set to make $17 million next season, will be dealt for the second time in his career.

Another reason the Chiefs could be willing to move the veteran signal-caller is the progress made by rookie Patrick Mahomes, who many believe has the talent to be a franchise quarterback. The Chiefs selected Mahomes in the first round of last year’s draft.
Mahomes is a younger, cheaper option with a strong arm who can stretch the field.
But for now, the Chiefs will be looking to take care of business at home against the Tennessee Titans. The game is currently underway on ESPN and ABC.
