The FAU football program has named its new offensive coordinator.
On Wednesday morning, it was announced that 24-year-old Charlie Weis Jr. will be taking over the role, a move that comes after he previously served on the staff a year ago.
Weis was initially set to be Lane Kiffin’s tight ends coach before leaving the staff for an offensive assistant role with the Atlanta Falcons.
Now that the Falcons’ season is over, Weis is returning to the staff in a larger role. According to Owl Access, Weis is now the youngest current coordinator at the FBS level.
Weis previously served under Kiffin when he was an ofensive analyst for the program during Kiffin’s days as offensive coordinator. He is the son of former New England Patriots offensive coordinator and Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis. While his father was running the New England offense, the Patriots won three Super Bowl titles.
FAU will enter the 2018 campaign with plenty of talent on the roster after an 11-3 finish in Kiffin’s first year as Owls head coach which was capped off by a Conference USA Championship and a win in the Boca Raton Bowl.
