Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin 2 Date Officially Announced

Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin 2 is official.
On Monday afternoon, HBO boxing released a teaser video to officially announce the date for the highly-anticipated rematch between two of boxing’s biggest stars.
The fight will go down on Cinco de Mayo — Saturday, May 5 — on HBO pay-per-view.
While a date was officially announced, information on a location and venue will be announced in the coming weeks.

Bovada.lv has already released odds for Alvarez vs. Golovkin 2:

  • Gennady Golovkin -170
  • Canelo Alvarez +140

The two fighter previously faced off in a back-and-forth 12 round fight at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas in September of 2017.
Many believed Golovkin was deserving of the decision victory, but when the fight went to the judge’s scorecards the bout was ruled a split draw. A scorecard from judge Adalaide Byrd — which gave Canelo 10 of 12 rounds — was the most controversial scoring from the night, so people will be paying close attention to see who will be named as judges for the rematch.
Alvarez (49-1-2, 34 KOs) is currently the Lineal and Ring Magazine Middleweight World Champion, while Golovkin (37-0-1, 33 KOs)  owns the WBC/WBA/IBF/IBO Middleweight World Championships.
We will update the post with more information about the highly-anticipated rematch when it becomes available.
