Following Thursday night’s Sweet 16 matchup between No. 9 seed Kansas State and No. 5 seed Kentucky, K-State players were upset about a perceived slight from Kentucky. The players claimed that Kentucky players did not shake their hands and it was taken as a sign of disrespect.
“They didn’t shake our hands,” Kansas State junior guard said, as transcribed by College Spun. “It’s sorry. … They know what they did.”
Well, that actually may not have been the case.
As you can see in the photo above, the Wildcats actually were in the handshake line following their game at Phillips Arena in Atlanta.
University of Kentucky Deputy Director of Athletics DeWayne Peevy shared the following on Twitter.
There were several false reports last night that our players didn’t shake hands after the game. Our student-athletes did shake hands with the K-State staff while the team was celebrating. Good luck to
@KStateMBB and@RamblersMBB in the Elite Eight.
Welp, that settles it. The complaints were much to do about nothing.
Next up for Kansas State is a matchup with Loyola-Chicago, the Cinderella of this year’s March Madness, with a spot in the Final Four on the line.
