The Florida football team’s official Twitter account had its heart in the right place to start Memorial Day, but the social media team had a massive misfire. Rather than honoring and remembering those who gave their lives for the country, the Gators mistook the holiday for Veterans Day, which is a day to honor those dead and living who have served.
It’s a mistake that more people mak than would like to admit, so let’s clear things up once and for all.
From theĀ U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs:
Many people confuse Memorial Day and Veterans Day. Memorial Day is a day for remembering and honoring military personnel who died in the service of their country, particularly those who died in battle or as a result of wounds sustained in battle.
Make sure you don’t go making the same mistake as the Gators. No one wants to be that guy on social media. And, most importantly, be sure to take a moment to honor and remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
