UPDATE: 8/20/18: Police confirm the woman seen in the video is NOT Caitlin Denison.
According to reports, the sister of Caitlin Denison — a woman who went missing in January after telling her family she was going to Midland, Texas — believes she is the woman who was seen on a home surveillance camera ringing doorbells around 3:20 a.m. local time in the Sunrise Ranch neighborhood of Montgomery, Texas, on Friday, August 24.
The Daily Mail reports that Rachael Denison claims her 19-year-old sister Caitlin, a Reno, Nevada woman who was “one or two months” pregnant when she disappeared in January 2018, is the woman in the recently released surveillance footage.
In a video recorded on the night of August 24, a barefoot woman — possibly Denison — can be seen wearing only a t-shirt with restraint around her wrist as she frantically rings the doorbell. The woman disappeared before the homeowners answered the door.
Rachael says she is able to recognize her sister’s tattoos in the video.
According to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, a resident of Sunrise Ranch in Montgomery, Texas was awakened on August 24 at 3:20 a.m. local time by their doorbell. But when they came to the door, no one was there.
After reviewing home video surveillance footage, the resident saw a barefoot woman without pants and what looks like a broken restraint hanging from her right wrist. The woman walked up to the front door and rang the doorbell.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said it is looking into the “suspicious incident.”
Police say that after posting footage of the incident online, they have received numerous claims that the woman is a missing person from their area. However, they have yet to match any of those claims with the woman in the footage. They are continuing to canvas the area and are reviewing video surveillance from other nearby houses and businesses.
A second unidentified resident in the neighborhood told Click2Houston: “We were dead asleep in our beds. My husband was woken up by the doorbell ring. It rang probably 20 to 30 times.”
Reports indicate that the still unidentified woman went to “at least five homes in the subdivision.”
As for what homeowners should do should they find themselves in this situation, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Scott Spencer said:
“Answer the door but call from the other side of the door don’t actually open the door. Unfortunately, times have changed from yesterday so you have to be very careful we have had a lot of home invasions.”
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone who may have seen her to call (936) 760-5800 and refer to case No. 18A243347 or direct inquiries to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Caitlin is a 19-year-old from Reno, Nevada. She had told her family that she was going to fly to Midland, Texas to meet with a man she had recently met in her hometown. However, after she made the trip to Texas, she vanished and has not been seen or heard from since. According to reports, Caitlin’s last words were to her sister when she said, “this guy makes me scared for my life.”
