Labor Day 2018: Are Banks & Stores Open?

It’s Labor Day weekend! The federal holiday honors American works and “the contributions that workers have made to the strength, prosperity, laws and well-being of the country.” While it is nice to have a long weekend, the sad part of Labor Day is that it marks the unofficial end of the summer.
Labor Day takes place on the first Monday of September, which means this year’s holiday comes on Monday, Sept. 3.
But while we enjoy a long weekend and the holiday, there could be some inconveniences for anyone who is looking to head to the bank or store. While most stores will be open on Labor Day — even if it is altered hours — banks are a different story.
Is your bank open on Labor Day? Let’s take a look.

Are Banks Open On Labor Day?

Labor Day is a federal holiday, meaning non-essential federal government offices are closed. Despite being off of work, federal employees will still be paid for the holiday and a number of other private-sector employees will also be receiving their pay.
The following banks will be closed on Labor Day:

  • Bank of America
  • Capital One Bank
  • Chase Bank
  • Citibank
  • Citizens Bank
  • Fifth Third Bank
  • HSBC Bank
  • Huntington Bank
  • KeyBank
  • PNC Bank
  • TD Bank
  • Regions Bank
  • As well as most local banks

In addition to Labor Day, other federal holidays that shut down the banking industry are:

  • New Year’s Day
  • Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
  • Presidents’ Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Columbus Day
  • Veterans Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day
  • Memorial Day

Enjoy your holiday, everyone!
