What’s Happening?

With E-Sports being one of the biggest upcoming hype in the sports industry, for-profit and non-profit organizations are organizing competitions around the world. But for the first time ever, a multi-title E-Sports competition is being organized by a state games program.
Eastern Kentucky University Institute Director George Landon says that the non-profit organization, RunJumpDev, will be in charge of running the day-long event on Saturday, November 3, 2018.
“This will be kind of an interesting seeing the non-profit groups starting to pick this up and realizing that there’s a lot of opportunity for growth as well so it will be really interesting to see where this goes,” Landon says to WEKU.

One of the games that will be part of this competition will be Hearthstone, a free-to-play online collectible card video game developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment. There are currently over 20 million people playing that game as of now.
The competition on Saturday is driving up a lot of attention as it is nothing like the conventional sports competition people are used to watching.

E-Sports is a rising billion dollar industry that has taken over the gaming industry in the past few years. Currently, E-Sports is an organized competition that consists of multiple players in teams that compete against each other in any given game. This is usually played between professional players in a game. Just like traditional sports competitions, E-Sport competitions are usually held at large stadiums where there are thousands of seats watching the center where the players face off through large screens. Currently, some of the biggest E-Sport games that generate a lot of revenue are League of Legends, Overwatch, Counter-Strike and many more. Games like these captivate many players with the large prize pool that can go over a million dollars.
