Notre Dame vs. Clemson in the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic officially kicks off the College Football Playoff on Saturday, December 29. The No. 3 Fighting Irish enter the game as a significant underdog to the No. 2 Tigers, who are looking to make it three national championship appearances in a row.
It is a matchup of undefeated teams.
Clemson will have to overcome the loss of star defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence, who was suspended after testing positive for the banned substance osterine, so even more pressure will be on freshman quarterback Trevor Lawrence and sophomore running back Travis Etienne to light up the scoreboard.
“I think the running back, Etienne, I think he’s as good a running back as we’ve seen since Georgia of last year, that kind of talent,” Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly said, via ESPN.com. “The quarterback is really good. He’s got great arm talent. He’s tall and can see the field. I think the receiving corps is on par with a USC receiving corps. That’s a pretty dynamic offensive set.”
We will have to see if the Fighting Irish defense is up for the challenge.
