Nike Unveils New Self-Lacing Sneaker: Nike Adapt BB

Nike has unveiled its newest basketball sneaker and it’s bringing some futuristic technology. On Tuesday, January 15, Nike unveiled its Nike Adap BB basketball shoe which is the company’s latest auto-lacing sneaker. The Nike Adapt BB features an advanced power-lacing system and comes with an app that allows you to control the show from your iPhone.
“We picked basketball as the first sport for Nike Adapt intentionally because of the demands that athletes put on their shoes,” says Eric Avar, Nike VP Creative Director of Innovation in a statement.
“During a normal basketball game the athlete’s foot changes and the ability to quickly change your fit by loosening your shoe to increase blood flow and then tighten again for performance is a key element that we believe will improve the athlete’s experience.”
The custom motor in the Nike Adapt BB senses tension in the sneaker and adjusts the tightness accordingly. If the shoe is too loose or too tight for your liking, you can simply adjust everything on the Nike app and your smartphone.
The shoes can also be wirelessly charged.

Charging your shoes is as easy as setting them on the mat and watching the lights change to reflect your battery levels. If the battery runs out while you’re wearing them, don’t sweat it. Your shoes will still unlace so you never get stuck.

The sneaker will be available February 17 beginning at 10:00 a.m. ET. The Nike Adapt BB will cost $350 and you can place a pre-order now.
