The Gwinnett Stripers, the Triple-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves, have introduced a new fan promo that features an unlikely speedster. The promo — which is a play on the viral “Beat the Freeze” promo that the Braves introduced fans to — is known as “Beat the Fridge.”
Fans have an opportunity to race 300-pound Nabih “Nino” Dandan around the outfield track.
Initially, out of the gate, Nino clumsily stumbles through a 10-second head start before his opponent passes him midway through the race. That’s when the magic really happens with The Fridge turning on the afterburners for an incredible comeback down the home stretch.
It is quite a sight to see.
You can check out the impressive wheels on The Fridge below.
According to 11alive.com, the Fridge is 8-5 in his races this season. The 5 losses? All intentional losses to provide laughter for the fans.
The Gwinnett Stripers were formerly known as the Gwinnett Braves and have been a Triple-A team since 2009. Their time as a minor league affiliate of the Braves dates back to 1950.
