Jacksonville State has been loading up with FBS transfers, with the latest addition being former Auburn Tigers running back Roc Thomas. Last month, Auburn officially released Thomas from his scholarship and now he can head to the FCS level.
“Roc is a great addition for our team,” Jacksonville State head coach John Grass said in a statement. “We lost some key players at running back and it’s really good to get him in and help shore up the depth at that position.
“He is a great player that is returning home. He was a 5-star running back that is an explosive player. He is familiar with our system after playing for me in high school, and I expect him to flourish in it here at JSU.”
Interestingly enough, Thomas and Grass have a strong relationship, as Grass was the running back’s high school head coach.
Because Thomas transferred to the FCS level, he is eligible to play immediately. Thomas will also have a redshirt and two years of eligibility remaining in his college football career.
Thomas was a five-star member of Auburn’s 2014 recruiting class and recorded 475 yards and three touchdowns on the ground during his time with the Tigers.
