Michael Porter Jr. is one of the best basketball players in the country for the class of 2017. He and his brother, touted 2018 recruit Jontay Porter, announced over the weekend that they both made a big move for their future.
It was announced that they would follow their father Michael Porter Sr., who recently accepted a coaching job under Lorenzo Romar at Washington, to Seattle and would enroll at Nathan Hale High School to finish their high school basketball careers. They were recently living in Columbia, Missouri while their father worked as an assistant for the Missouri Tigers womens’ team.
However, this seems to be a surprising move since Nathan Hale is not exactly a basketball powerhouse after they went 3-18 last season. But, the school recently hired former Washington basketball star Brandon Roy as their new head coach, so this is probably the biggest reason for the players’ decision.
Michael Porter Jr. is expected to enroll at Washington for what will likely be a one-and-done season, while Jontay Porter is already committed to the Huskies. The basketball team at Nathan Hale could benefit greatly from having a former college star and two future college stars leading their team.
