The award is named after the first director of the NFL Football Hall of Fame and has been awarded by the Professional Football Writers of America every year since 1969. Mortensen will join a list of names that includes Peter King, John Clayton and Will McDonough.
Chris Mortensen first appeared with ESPN in 1991 after he spent time working with The National and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Mortensen took a leave of absence from the Family of Networks in mid-January.
