As if life for the Colorado Buffaloes was not already hard enough, things just got a lot more difficult. The Buffaloes will now be without a key piece to their defensive front for the entire 2015 season after Josh Tupou was suspended from the team.
Colorado sports information director and associate athletics director Dave Plati told BSN Denver: “Josh (Tupou) will not be a member of the team this fall. Due to student privacy laws, we are not permitted to go into specifics as to why.”
It is speculated that Tupou was suspended for his involvement in a brawl at University Hill that took place in early February. Tupou was accused of hitting fellow student Christopher Tetreault in the face three or four times. Tetreault was taken to Boulder Community Hospital where he was treated for multiple broken bones in his face.
A warrant was issued for Tupou’s arrest, but he turned himself in just days later. It was reported that all charges were dropped by the district attorney on April 17. Despite the charges being dropped, Colorado went through with suspending Tupou for the entire season.
Tupou was a big part of the Buffaloes’ defensive line last year. He recorded thirty tackles and three sacks for the team. Losing Tupou will only hurt Colorado for the upcoming season and it will be hard for the them to get back to a bowl game for the first time since 2007 when they lost the Independence Bowl.
