Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett led his team for most of the 2014 season before an injury in the Michigan game sat him down for the Buckeyes’ postseason run. The ESPY’s are Wednesday night and a few Ohio State football players have been invited due to team being nominated for “Best Team.” Barrett is not one of them.
According to College Spun, Ezekiel Elliot, Joshua Perry, and fellow Buckeye quarterback Braxton Miller will be attending the ceremonies in New York. They will join the quarterback that led the team to the Big Ten and National championship Cardale Jones who was nominated for “Best Breakthrough Athlete.”
Annie Apple, mother of Buckeyes cornerback Eli Apple, was not too happy with Barrett not being invited with his teammates. She went on a Twitter rant to vent her frustrations.
Someone please tell me why JT isn't going. The kid balled out all year, breaking records, led this team. #NotCool https://t.co/ilW2nWeRA5

But if not…JT deserves to be there. Nothing will make me believe any differently. https://t.co/3YSSAXb2pJ

Barrett was appreciative of Apple’s support, but he also told her that he was not concerned about not getting an invite.

Barrett handled that situation in the maturest way possible. Good on you, Barrett. At least the Buckeyes know they have a guy that knows how to keep his cool on the depth chart.
The ESPY’s air on ESPN tonight at 8 p.m. EST.
