East Tennessee State dismisses Shemar Johnson

The East Tennessee State Buccaneers have not made the NCAA Tournament since 2010, but they are looking to change that this year after finishing 24-12 and making the Vegas 16 tournament a season ago. However, they will have to move forward without guard Shemar Johnson.

Head coach Steve Forbes announced on Monday that Johnson had been dismissed from the team.

He made the announcement in a statement that read “being a Buc is a special opportunity and at ETSU we provide our student-athletes with a tremendous experience. With that privilege comes accountability and Shemar failed to meet the expectations I have to be a player in our program.”

Forbes wished Johnson, a redshirt freshman from Columbus, Mississippi, the best of luck in his future with his basketball career.

Johnson took his redshirt last year and did not play a game for the Buccaneers. He was a late signee last year, who averaged 16.5 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.1 steals and 2.7 assists at New Hope High School during his senior year.
