USC football coach Clay Helton is feeling the heat after a 1-2 start to the season for the Trojans, so he needed to find a scapegoat. That turned out to be quarterback Max Browne, who started the first three games under center for USC.
On Monday night, Helton announced the Trojans will go with redshirt freshman Sam Darnold as the starting quarterback for this weekend’s game against Utah.

Darnold has thrown for 136 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in limited time this season.
Coming out of high school, Darnold was a four-star recruit and the No. 5 dual-threat quarterback in his class. Now, he will have the opportunity to lead the offense and prove he is the future at quarterback for the Trojans.
USC and Utah are set to kickoff at 9 p.m. on FOX Sports 1 Friday night at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City.
