Some people love them and some people hate them, but everyone has an opinion of them. And for the final time on Sunday, the Pittsburgh Steelers will wear the team’s bumble bee throwback uniforms onto the field.
The Steelers announced the throwbacks will be worn against the New York Jets at Heinz Field, making their only appearance of the year.
The NFL also has a rule that requires teams to change their throwback looks every five years, so expect the Steelers to drop the 80th anniversary uniforms — which made their debut in 2012 — next season.
Pittsburgh wore the bumble bee throwbacks at least once in each of the past five years.
The throwback uniforms paid tribute to the Pittsburgh Pirates which joined the NFL in 1933. Owner Art Rooney Sr. eventually changed the team name to the Steelers in 1940.
What throwbacks could the Steelers bust out in 2017? They should really confuse everyone and break out the green Phil-Pitt Steagles look from 1943.
