Big 12 Commissioner Thinks Cheating Pays

In what many are perceiving as a slight shot at the SEC, Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby took aim at the NCAA’s inability to monitor its members.

“Enforcement is broken,” Bowlsby exclaimed. “The infractions committee hasn’t had a hearing in almost a year, and I think it’s not an understatement to say cheating pays presently.”

Whatever his true intentions are, this appears to be a very calculated move by Bowlsby.  With the NCAA’s move to a 4 team playoff, and 5 current power conferences, it is clear that at least 1 power conference will be left on the outside looking in. Bowlsby for better or worse, drew some attention to his conference. However, it is ironic that a conference that features many of the members of the former Southwestern Conference, the conference that had the NCAA rewrite its book on recruiting violations, is now crying for more oversight.

Time will tell how the new playoff system changes the college football landscape, and if there is more oversight on the way from the NCAA. As it stands right now, the NCAA is vastly understaffed and overmatched by large donors and universities.
