The Auburn Tigers received a big commitment Monday night from Class of 2016 wide receiver Nate Craig from Florida powerhouse Tampa Catholic. Craig’s recruitment was led by wide receivers coach and former Auburn quarterback Demayune Craig (no relation).
Coach Craig is best known for his time as the quarterback coach and recruiting coordinator at Florida State, where he was the lead recruiter of Heisman trophy winner Jameis Winston among others. It is rumored that coach Craig, who is entering his second year on the Auburn staff, tipped off the Auburn defense on some of Florida State’s offensive signals during January’s BCS National Championship game, as many of the signals remained the same from the previous season.
At 6’2”, 200 pounds, the rising junior and five-star recruit is the type of big-bodied receiver head coach Gus Malzahn has yearned for in an effort to add some balance to an offense that is heavily dependent on the ground game. Nate displays very good hands and is dangerous with the ball in open field after the catch. These skills helped Craig snag 37 catches for 502 yards and 16 total touchdowns last season as a sophomore.
The Tigers’ main competition for the services of the central Florida standout were Clemson and Ohio State.
