Dartmouth 2014 Preview

Coming off a 6-4 season and going 5-2 in conference play, the ‘Big Green’ has a lot to look forward to this season. With the return of nine All-Ivy players, Big Green’s young squad is going into the 2014 season expecting to win the Ivy League outright.

Dartmouth will open up its season against Central Connecticut. Dartmouth will be the clear cut favorite to win this game against a weak Blue Devil opponent. Central Connecticut will be in its fourth game of the season, so perhaps the tune up games prior could even out the talent disparity between the two teams. The second game of the season will be a testament to Dartmouth’s true potential, UNH. The Wildcats will serve as a good measurement for Dartmouth before they begin conference play against the always tough 2012 Ivy league champion, the UPenn Quakers.

Dalyn Williams from Texas will look to lead the Green Machine to the promised land this year.  Williams, an All-Ivy league player as sophomore, will likely be the offensive leader for the very strong Dartmouth offense. As a sophomore Dalyn started all 10 games for the Big Green, with a completion percentage of 55.6%. Williams added 11 touchdowns and only five interceptions. In two years Williams has already made his way into Dartmouth’s history books, seventh all time in all purpose yards in just two seasons of play. Dalyn is a nominee for the CFPA award, given each year to the nation’s top quarterback in the FCS conference.

The very promising Dartmouth team also had eight other stand out players that were preseason all-Ivy that coach Buddy Teevens will count on this season. Wide receiver Kirby Schoenthaler and Bo Patterson (also nominated as a punt returner) made the list, as did linemen Scotty Whitmore and Evan Charistic, Dartmouth’s co-captains, who Teevens will look to help anchor the defensive and offensive line for Big Green.
