Former Iowa State forward Calvin Godfrey has announced that he will transfer to Memphis for the upcoming season. The big man will be an added force to an already strong Tigers front line. Godfrey was dismissed from the Cyclones following an arrest for possession of marijuana.
Last season, the 6 foot 7 Godfrey averaged 13.1 points and 8.6 rebounds per game while spending his sophomore year at Southern. Unlike other transfers, Godfrey will be eligible for the impending season because his year at Southern is considered exempt — Southern was ruled ineligible to participate in the upcoming postseason due to poor APR scores.
Two other schools showed interest in Godfrey before he settled with Memphis. Connecticut showed desire to bring Godfrey on board, but red flags turned the school away. Also interested was Louisiana State, but the school denied Godfrey’s application to attend the university.
