True freshman John Wolford will be the starting quarterback for the Demon Deacons this upcoming season.
He will be the first true freshman to start the season opener for Wake Forest since Mike McGlamry did so in 1974.
Wolford edged out Kevin Sousa and Tyler Cameron for the top seat on the depth chart.
Wake Forest head coach Dave Clawson stated that he decided to name Wolford the starter after Wolford’s performance in Sunday’s scrimmage. He threw for 122 yards and an interception but scored a touchdown on a twelve yard run.
Rivals.com rated Wolford a three-star prospect out of Bishop Kenny high school located in Jacksonville, Florida. He had a stellar high school career, one highlighted by breaking Tim Tebow’s career touchdowns record. He also set Florida records for passing yards and all-purpose touchdowns.
Wake Forest opens up its season with Louisiana-Monroe on August 28.
