Two New Mexico football players have been reinstated into the program. After April charges of rape and kidnapping had both players arrested, top returning running back Crusoe Gongbay and defensive back SaQwan Edwards were allowed to return to action for the Lobos yesterday.
The Bernalillo County District Attorney’s Office decided to dismiss the case against the two players and former student Ryan Ruff. Outside of that information, not much is known regarding the reasons the charges were dropped.
A season ago, Gongbay rushed for 592 yards and six touchdowns primarily as a back up. The soon to be senior is expected to be the team’s top rushing option and be relied upon heavily to contribute a big season to New Mexico. Edwards had 42 tackles and an interception during his junior season, and will be expected to shoulder a leadership role in the secondary this year.
