The Notre Dame Fighting Irish unveiled their newest jerseys for the 2014 season. In the off-season, the university and apparel powerhouse Under Armor agreed to a 10-year, $90 million sponsorship deal that will focus on uniforms and cleats for the school’s sports teams.
While the home and away jerseys remain rather true to the program’s long standing tradition, the team’s uniforms for the “shamrock series” show a unique twist to the normal blue and gold. Notre Dame will square off on September 13 against Purdue donning blue jerseys with a gold stripe along both shoulders with the ND emblem appearing in blue.
Furthermore, the golden helmets will feature the interlocked ND for the first time in the program’s history. The decision to add “ND” to the helmets may be the most controversial decision from Under Armor and could cause disapproval among the most loyal fans who are used to the classic solid gold helmets.
