Ishmael Banks Suspended Three Games

West Virginia will be without starting cornerback Ishmael Banks for the first three games of the season, head coach Dana Holgorsen announced earlier today.

Banks will miss the season opener against Alabama (August 30),  Towson (September 6), and their first road game versus Maryland (September 13).

The redshirt senior was suspended in response to “academic issues.” He will be back when the Mountaineers take on Oklahoma on September 20.

Last season, Banks recorded 32 tackles and two interceptions.

Travis Bell or Terrell Chestnut will likely get the start against Alabama this Saturday. West Virginia is looking to bounce back from a 4-8 season, their worst since 2001.
