Louisville Names Will Gardner Starting QB

Another Division I quarterback competition has come to a close. The Louisville Cardinals named Will Gardner their starting quarterback earlier today, with the September 1 matchup with the Miami Hurricanes quickly approaching.

The sophomore spent most of last year backing up eventual first round pick Teddy Bridgewater.  In limited action Gardner completed 8 of 12 passes for 112 yards and two touchdowns.

Gardner was the heavy favorite after spring practices, but still had not proven to head coach Bobby Petrino that he was the man for the job.  The first-year starter will spend most of the year playing without the team’s biggest offensive weapon, as Devante Parker will miss six to eight weeks as he recovers from a fracture in his left foot.
